Main System

Main system consists of different subsystems that is required by the modules such as screens controllers/embedded computers, PSUs etc. This allows so that each module/instrument doesn’t need to have it’s own systems that would be common between all other modules. Depending on the configuration it could contain an embedded SBC or something like an OSIP Fiberlink Remote F/O System that will provide the required IO from an external server or a computer.

Controller Board

chassis
RevB OSIP Controller Assembly based on a Lattepanda Mu

Controller board provides all the required IO for the subsystems from a SBC module. At the time being a Lattepanda Mu module is used alongside a custom carrier board.

You can check the Lattepanda’s official documentation for more details. For additional storage alongside the onboard eMMC, Controller Board also provides a gen3 x1 NVMe M key slot which can be used for a NVMe SSD or with a M.2 to SATA adapter.

Front panel user IO provides 2x 5Gbps USB3, 2x 480Mbps USB2, 1x 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet Port and 2x external display connections. User also has the option to install a PCIe Card on the available PCIe Gen3 x4 Slot. Future plans for this PCIe slot also includes connectivity for an expansion connection to another OSIP Chassis to have more modules or have an adapter card to be able to use PXI/PXIe instrument modules in the same OSIP Chassis.

Card also provides 2x 5Gbps USB3, 5x 480Mbps USB2 ports for data connectivity to instrument slots and one more USB2 port is used for controlling the Power Control System.

Power Control System

Power Control System acts as a slot power controller with it’s RP2040 MCU. It handles power-on / power-off sequences of the instrument enabling SBC on the Controller Board to make a safe shutdown.
The card can individually control each slot with 7 individual channels with 4 of the channels having extra output connectors for additional PSUs to provide high voltage or high power to the modules.

Module slots require ( +5V | +12V | -12V ) voltage rails by specification which are provided by 60W Meanwell RPT60-B triple output medical grade PSUs with low ground leakage currents for having the modules galvanically isolated from the mains ground. Meanwell RPS-500-48-SF single output 500W 48V medical grade PSUs can be used for modules that require more power like Variable Power Supplies, Laser Drivers, Peltier Temp Controller etc. OSIP Controller Board gets powered by a 12V Meanwell EPS-65-12 PSU that can provide upto 65W to SBC and installed expansion cards.
